Typing should remain in insert mode

  1. David Lee

Using insert mode allows users to use standard keyboard shortcuts that are available in insert mode. Also, insert mode allows users to use IMs to input non-ascii characters. Finally, insert mode will show a cursor (especially helpful since there seems to be an invisible cursor positioning).

Right now, it seems like user is taken out of insert mode:

    • I can't use C-W to rubout a word (it's remapped in normal mode)
    • I can't input Asian text using IMs
    • I don't see a cursor, but there definitely is a cursor position since I can go left/right.

Correct, you're not in insert mode when you're using Command-T.

There is a cursor, but it may be hard to see, depending on your color scheme.

There is a ticket open in the issue tracker for the inability to type non-ASCII characters (bug #1535).
